The field of musculoskeletal oncology is a highly specialized branch of orthopedic surgery. It involves
the care and rehabilitation of adult and children patients afflicted by tumours and tumorous conditions
of the bones, joints and soft tissues. These tumours can be benign (eg. giant cell tumors, osteoid
osteomas, enchondromas) or malignant which in turn can be primary (eg. osteosarcomas, Ewing’s
sarcoma and chondrosarcomas in the bone and soft tissue sarcomas like liposarcomas and
rhabdomyosarcomas) or secondary (metastasis from remote sites like the lung, breast and prostate).
